What a Pain!

Your body does many interesting things while pregnant, one of which is to supress the immune system so as not to identify the baby as a foreign object and launch an all out attack. The down side is that your immune response is diminished to pretty much EVERYTHING...which is why I've been battling a cold for the past month and can't seem to shake it. Last week I developed a fever and now I have an earache and a sinus infection. Ugh! Today I finally had to give it up and kneel down to the Zithromax god so that I can get some relief. Poor Mike has listened to me whine for long enough so hopefully he'll be able to get some relief, too!

Baby Jinx says Hello!

We had an ultrasound today and everything looked absolutely great, including the four-fingered wave of greeting shown above! Baby Jinx is growing wonderfully and is right on track for a Thanksgiving delivery! The little rascal wouldn't let us get a good look at the gender yet...Yesterday was the first day that I really felt some little wriggles and thumps! Very exciting!!!

#34

Thanks to all for the many birthday wishes! Thanks to Mike I had a GREAT day, starting with that Cuisinart food processor that I've been lusting after for years, bagels for breakfast at work, yummy Bo-Ling's for dinner, and ICE CREAM BIRTHDAY CAKE! Mmmmm!! What a great husband I have!

Also, thanks to everyone who helped schlep all of our stuff from the condo over to the new house while I was away for my Granny's funeral. I am SO thankful that we have such great friends and family who were willing to help so that Mike didn't have to do the entire move by himself. Other than everyone risking a hernia, I think the only casualty I heard about was that uncle Bob nearly got a concussion from the garage door! We can't wait to have everyone over to visit once we get unpacked and settled in!

There's not much to report on the baby front...I'm 17 weeks now and looking really pregnant! I just read that the baby is the size of an open hand, which is hard to imagine. Everything seems to be going great!

Some Sad News

Unfortunately I have some sad news to share. My granny passed away on June 10th. She was 85 and we were very close. Granny was full of spunk and loads of fun. She was quite a remarkable lady and was surrogate mom/grandma to more kids around my hometown than I can even count! She loved her BINGO and made the best coconut cream and lemon merengue pies! I will miss her dearly.

Her funeral service will be on Saturday. Unfortunately, I'll have to make the 6 hour trip home by myself because Saturday is the day we've been scheduled to move for months! I feel horrible for Mike because he'll have to do the whole move without me. Thank goodness we have such AWESOME family and friends who have volunteered to help Mike with the move. I can't imagine what we'd do without them!

Goodbye Condo, Hello Suburbs!

Today is a big day! In a couple of hours we'll be getting the keys to our new house! We are SO excited!! Everything in our condo is all boxed up and ready to go. The Mao-Mao's have been enjoying the last two weeks prowling around the cardboard jungle that is our living room and kitchen. They are going to be in for quite a shock tomorrow on Moving Day, but I think they'll like their new digs! Lots of windows and space to run around.

Remember when I blogged about starting my patio garden? Well, apparently my thumb turned green! I have already picked three red-ripe tomatoes and my yellow cherry tomato plant is loaded with tiny greens. I already have about 4-5 jalapeno peppers on the vine and my basil is going crazy. I think I must have bought the incredible hulk of potting soil this year! I have not yet mastered cilantro cultivation, apparently. My cilantro started out as a nice, full, bushy plant and now it's about 3 feet tall and looks like some giant weed that I would have found in my dad's cow pasture. Hmm...maybe I'll just have to harvest the seeds and have some fresh coriander! We'll see how the plants handle the move to the new patio...

Scary day!

Yesterday we had a slight scare. I suddenly developed some pretty significant bleeding and we had to make an emergency visit to the OB for an ultrasound. Thank goodness everything was fine with the baby, but I do have placenta previa which is causing the bleeding. This is a pretty common pregnancy complication which often resolves itself with time as the uterus grows. Unfortunately, I have to be on bedrest for a little while until things stabilize. No packing, no moving, no standing up! Ugh! Talk about bad timing! We did get to see the baby again and were AMAZED at how much it has grown over the past 3 weeks!

Whew! What a month!

It has been a very busy month at our house! The first weekend in May we participated in the CF walk with Mike's good friend and his family. It was a beautiful day and we really enjoyed visiting with everybody.
The second weekend in May we took a road trip with Mike's dad to St. Louis for Mike's cousin's wedding. It was a beautiful wedding and we had a blast visiting with all of the extended family. We took Mike's dad to do some sightseeing at the Anheiser-Busch brewery and to the St. Louis Arch. Check out these handsome dudes!

The third weekend in May we traveled to NYC to visit Mike's sister and brother-in-law. We had a BLAST and it was really great to see them! We spent some time in Central Park and took the Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty. We also took a trip up to the top of the Empire State Building and had an AWESOME meal in Chinatown. Let me tell you that it is not easy to find public restrooms in Manhattan, especially when you are pregnant and need to find the ladies room at least once an hour! Also, I smelled some things that were downright WRONG on the subway. I grew up on a farm, so weird, gross smells don't phase me much. The air in the NYC subway tunnels, however, is like nothing that I have encountered before.
Memorial Day weekend we took another road trip to my hometown to visit my sister and parents. My nephews are 3-1/2 and almost 5 and were really wound up to see us. They went so crazy when we got there that they both stripped off all of their clothes, ran around the yard about 5 times naked, and jumped in their new kiddie pool. It was quite a sight! We love visiting our nephews as they never cease to entertain us with their antics!

Right now we're trying to get everything squared away before our closing on the condo. Everything went really well with our inspection, no surprises. Yay! Now we start the dreaded task of packing up everything. Ugh!
